Beautifully Different - #Reverb10

The Beauty of Different - @chookooloonks

Beautifully different. Think about what makes you different and what you do that lights people up. Reflect on all the things that make you different - you’ll find they’re what make you beautiful.

I’ve had a really hard time with this prompt today. I can’t say it’s because I don’t know how to reflect (we all know that’s not true). I can’t say it’s because I’m at a loss (I know I’m beautiful and different). But the differences that make me beautiful? Not a clue.

Perhaps I’m too modest to really dive into what makes me different and therefore beautiful in my own way. Or perhaps I don’t feel so different - at least in the beautiful ways.

So, I tried to crowdsource.

My crowd? Jeremy Orr. One of the incredible people I’ve met through Twitter. I’ll address:

1. I definitely do have guts. If moving to San Francisco, in two weeks, while leaving all my family and friends behind for a bunch of strangers, isn’t guts… I don’t know what is. I like risks, but I’m smart about taking them.

2. Sometimes my strength is to a fault, but I can’t imagine being any other way.

3. Damn straight, I look good in a Snuggie.

4. This is also true - I’ve always cared about others above myself.

6. I am good at counting. Orr skipped #5. Achem.

7. I’m mostly tactful. Sometimes my sarcasm can be construed as a lack of tact, but I try to be professional and respectful. Other times, people are just idiots.

After more thought (and discussion with Jeremy), I’ve also come to the conclusion that I’m a “Yes Woman.” I say “Yes” to just about anything. I am always open to trying new things and opening up to new experiences.

As Jeremy put it, I am “more often than not, ‘down.’” I like that. I’m unafraid of risks or not liking something. I’m willing to try things, be adventurous. I guess I think of everything as an opportunity - even if it determines that I don’t like something. At least I’ve tried it, and I know.

Not to mention, Andrew seems to be quite fond of my openness. I’m not afraid to share - let people into my life. I’m refreshingly honest (sometimes to a fault), and my sense of humor is enlightening. I’m genuine in all situations. Sincere. Fun. And plenty of other things I’m too embarrassed to admit here.

So there, beautifully different. ;)
