London: Day 6

More meetings took over Day 6. And they were all over the city. I believe we got off the train at Oxford Circus 4 separate times.

In any event, one of our meetings was nearby the Farringdon Tube Station. This area was very cute. I’m blown away by the intricate architecture and the cobblestone drives. “They built these buildings to really last, didn’t they?” Marc mentioned.

The offices we’ve visited have, in general, been absolutely beautiful, yet interesting. It’s as if they stuffed extremely modern furniture and posh art into a old brick building surrounded by cobblestones. It’s quite the experience.

Our last meeting took place near the Waterloo Tube Station. We opten to walk through the Oxford Market and over the Waterloo bridge instead of traveling underground. The bridge offers a beautiful view of the city and the areas on both sides of the bridge are gorgeous!

After our meetings, Dan and I wandered around Oxford Circus and shopped a bit. Holy shopping! I, of course, found Top Shop and could have spent the next 6 hours sifting through everything in that store. I made away with just a few little treats. By the time we were dont shopping, Oxford Circus was so crowded you could hardly even move. They shut down the Tube Station for a while to manage the crowds. Insane.

Marc was itching to go out, so we headed down to Camden to see some live music and grab some food. Our first stop was Proud Camden. During the day, Proud Camden is an art gallery and a lounge/restaurant located in CAmden Stables. Yes. Stables. Where horses used to live. There are tables and TVs in each stable, and it’s a place for you to hang out with friends in your own little…area. At night, it transforms into a live music venue and night club. I’d never listened to live British music, but it was definitely fun and interesting.

We wandered around Camden a bit more and headed back to the hotel. Definitely seeing some different cultures out here in London — similar subcultures that you may find in San Francisco, just on steroids.

Things I Learned Today:

1. Liefmans tastes like cough syrup.

2. There are a TON of people in London.

3. The Tube system is outstanding. San Francisco Muni and BART don’t even come close.

4. Italians are crazy (and poor beer on people’s heads).

5. In the daytime, the Tube is filled with businessmen in suits reading the newspaper. At night, everyone in the Tube is hammered and trying not to puke. Everyone. The British drink.
